What can I learn/know right now in 10 minutes that will be useful for the rest of my life?

I just read an ancient indian historic book called the Bhagavad Gita.

I’m just 40 pages in and this quote stuck out.

Renounce the fruits of action.

“You have the right to work, but never to the fruit of work.”

When you follow any goal in your life, you’re not guaranteed a reward.

What you are guaranteed though, is work. You need to make an EFFORT.

Rewards may come after months or years of work. And when you’re constantly focused on the fruits of your actions, it’s almost impossible to keep going.

So “renouncing your fruits” means being independent of the result.

In fact, caring about the result is like gambling with your emotions.

When the expectation of your result is not met, you’ll be hurt.

Every day. Every week. Every month.

In turn, independence of the outcome allows you to shrug it off your shoulder saying “Huh, ok.” and remain positive and trusting.

Surprisingly, your work will also improve with this mindset.

Your mind stays focused instead of swishing over to the future all the time.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the key to the infamous Flow or Deep Work.

Give yourself to the work, instead of the reward.
